Innovation & Entrepreneurship Prize

The GW Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship will offer $10,000 in prize money to participants in the 2017 GW Research Days.   Up to five prizes of $2,000 will be awarded to participants whose research shows the best potential for eventual commercial application, as determined by a panel of technology investors and entrepreneurs.

Each $2,000 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Prize is to be used to build prototypes or minimum viable products and to do Customer Development to help advance the student’s research toward commercialization.  Winners will receive $1,000 immediately and must successfully complete a 1-day Lean Startup Workshop before receiving the remaining $1,000 in prize money.

The 1-Day Lean Startup Workshop for the winners of this prize will take place on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

Participants who wish to compete for the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Prize must provide a short statement as part of their poster that lists the people who would benefit from the application of their technology and describes the potential value they would get from using the technology.  Advice and guidance is available from the GW Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to participants who want to compete for the prize.

To be eligible for the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Prize, participants must nominate themselves on the Research Days Abstract Submission Form.

Specifics for the 2017 GW Research Days is listed below.

  • Research Days, Day 1 -- Tuesday, April 4, 2017
    • Day 1 focuses on arts, business, education, engineering, humanities, law, mathematics, sciences and other topics.
    • Marvin Center, 3rd Floor, Grand and Continental Ballrooms
    • Judging for Day 1 is from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm plus 30 minutes for judges deliberation.
  • Research Days, Day 2 -- Wednesday, April 5, 2017
    • Day 2 focuses on health and medicine topics. Undergraduate students in biomedical engineering also participate on this day.
    • Marvin Center, 3rd Floor, Grand and Continental Ballrooms
    • Judging for Day 2 is from 12:30 to 1:30 pm plus 30 minutes for judges deliberation.
